Vanishing into the night.

It was then that my associate had the gorgeous idea of pursuing them. It was also then that I realised my associate was utterly insane. We ventured deep into the darkness of the forest into the open mouths that positioned within, waiting for the perfect moment to swallow us. I could feel melancholy stirring in my very lungs and hear harsh murmurs, but my associate was evidently oblivious to any such oddities, and just as I had come to the reassuring conclusion that they were the fabrication of my own, rotting, treacherous mind, we heard what sounded like thousands of elephants shrieking across the sky. I remember glancing heavenward and, trying my utterly hardest to remain collected, foolishly asking, 'is that them?' Even before my associate had uttered the terrible response I realised my knees had collapse and my eyes were full of tears.

My associate however swiftly summoned his rifle, aimed upward to the monstrosities that soared above, and fired. What happened next I shall never forget.
